Major Fire at Former Tampere Cardboard Factory Contained
A fire broke out on the roof of a decommissioned cardboard factory on Hallituskatu in Tampere on Tuesday evening, prompting a large-scale emergency response. The Pirkanmaa Rescue Department confirmed that the blaze has since been brought under control, with clearance operations underway after 9:00 PM.
The alarm was raised at 20:17, with the Rescue Department initially dispatching 21 units to the scene, later reported as 22 (Ilta-Sanomat). The fire originated after hot work was carried out on the roof of the former Tako industrial building, which is currently undergoing demolition. According to the Pirkanmaa Rescue Department, a smouldering fire went unnoticed following the work and later flared up (Ilta-Sanomat).
Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area at least until 10:00 PM to facilitate emergency operations. Iltalehti reports that the fire was confined to the roof of the building. No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
The Pirkanmaa Rescue Department continues to monitor the situation as clearance work progresses.
