Anneli Auer Seeks Over €1.3 Million in Compensation from the State
Anneli Auer has submitted a compensation claim to the State Treasury, demanding over €1.3 million for the suffering caused by her nearly four-year loss of freedom, Iltalehti reveals. The claim, filed on 15 June, follows the dismissal of sexual and violent crime charges against her in the District Court of Southwest Finland last April.
The largest single item in Auer’s claim is the €1,328,438 demanded for the distress caused by her wrongful detention. Additionally, she is seeking just over €45,000 for costs related to expert statements, as well as nearly €13,000 for legal and application expenses. The amounts requested for lost earnings and unaccrued pension have been redacted in the document provided to Iltalehti (Iltalehti).
Auer has previously received €511,600 in compensation after being wrongfully imprisoned for the murder of her husband, Jukka S. Lahti. The current record for so-called "cage compensation" in Finland stands at €520,000, awarded to a man wrongfully convicted of an execution-style murder in Äänekoski in 2013 (Iltalehti).
