A violent altercation on a train at Tikkurila station in Vantaa on Saturday afternoon resulted in the stabbing of an 18-year-old man, with police later apprehending a 16-year-old suspect. The incident has raised concerns over escalating violence in public transport, as authorities also investigate a separate robbery attempt on a commuter train earlier in the week.

Stabbing Incident and Arrest

At approximately 3:40 PM on Saturday, emergency services received a call from a witness who observed the stabbing from the station platform. Police arrived to find the victim on the train with two stab wounds caused by a bladed weapon (Ilta-Sanomat). The suspect had already fled the scene, prompting a search of the area around Tikkurila station, which initially proved unsuccessful (Iltalehti).

The 16-year-old suspect was later identified and detained following a review of surveillance camera footage and police investigations. He is now suspected of aggravated assault, and authorities intend to request his detention (Iltalehti; Ilta-Sanomat).

Victim Also Under Investigation

During the course of the investigation, police discovered that the 18-year-old victim had allegedly threatened other passengers on the train with an airsoft gun resembling a real firearm. As a result, he is now suspected of illegal threats and possession of an object intended to cause serious harm (Iltalehti). Ilta-Sanomat quotes Detective Inspector Sampsa Aukio, who confirmed that the weapon was an air gun.

Separate Robbery Attempt on Commuter Train

In a related development, police are also investigating an attempted robbery on a local train traveling toward Järvenpää on Thursday evening. According to Ilta-Sanomat, multiple reports were made to police around 9:00 PM regarding an altercation on the train. When officers arrived at Järvenpää station, the victim had already left the scene but later contacted emergency services.

Police detained two suspects near the station platform. The victim, a man in his thirties, reported that the suspects had boarded the train in Tikkurila, demanded his watch, and threatened violence. They allegedly attempted to force him off the train at a station of their choosing and even tried to coerce him into withdrawing money from an ATM. The victim managed to escape shortly before Järvenpää station after other passengers noticed the threatening situation and intervened.

One suspect is being held on charges of attempted robbery, while the other faces additional accusations, including violent resistance against an official and disruption of rail traffic. Chief Detective Inspector Anssi Murto provided details of the incident in a police statement (Ilta-Sanomat).
