The Supreme Court of Finland has rejected an application for leave to appeal from Roope Bob Tikkanen, a 51-year-old psychiatrist convicted of murdering his wife in December 2022. As a result, the life imprisonment sentence imposed by the Helsinki Court of Appeal remains in force (Iltalehti).

Tikkanen was found guilty in both the Helsinki District Court and the Helsinki Court of Appeal of killing his spouse in an "exceptionally brutal and cruel manner," according to Iltalehti. The Supreme Court (KKO) announced its decision on 17 June, confirming that no further legal recourse will be granted in the case (Yle).

Under Finnish law, Tikkanen may apply for conditional release no earlier than December 2034 (Iltalehti). The case has drawn attention due to the severity of the crime and the perpetrator’s professional background. Ilta-Sanomat notes that the Court of Appeal’s ruling is now final.
