Fatal Boating Accident on Lake Louhi in Mikkeli Claims One Life
A boating accident on Lake Louhi in Mikkeli early Friday morning resulted in the drowning of one man. The incident occurred in the early hours of Midsummer’s Eve, when a rowboat carrying four young men capsized.
The emergency center received a report of the accident at 4:24 a.m. (Yle). According to the South Savo Rescue Department, all four individuals ended up in the water after their boat overturned. Three of the men managed to swim to the shore of a nearby island, where they were later evacuated. Rescue divers located and retrieved the fourth man, who was found drowned (Iltalehti).
Emergency medical units transported the three survivors, who were described as chilled, to the hospital for evaluation (Ilta-Sanomat). All four men were of legal age and were not wearing life jackets at the time of the accident (Yle, Iltalehti, Ilta-Sanomat).
