Wolt Courier’s TikTok Videos Spark Privacy Concerns in Joensuu
A Wolt food delivery courier in Joensuu has faced criticism after posting TikTok videos that allegedly showed customers’ faces and the front doors of their homes, raising concerns about privacy violations. The videos, which had accumulated thousands of views, were removed from the courier’s channel on Monday (Ilta-Sanomat, Iltalehti).
Wolt confirmed that it had reviewed the matter with the courier and reiterated its guidelines on handling customer information appropriately. In a statement to Iltalehti, the company said:
"We have carefully instructed our delivery partners on these matters, but unfortunately, human errors and misunderstandings can occur. We take such situations extremely seriously. If we become aware of any activity that does not comply with our guidelines or contractual terms, we will thoroughly investigate the matter and take necessary actions."
Wolt added that it was aware of the case and had reminded the courier of its practices. The company also noted that, to its knowledge, the videos had been taken down (Iltalehti).
A new video was later posted on the courier’s TikTok channel, this time without showing customers’ faces or homes. In the comments section, the courier asked viewers to report any potential privacy oversights. When contacted by Iltalehti, the courier declined to comment (Iltalehti).
Upcoming Changes to Wolt’s Driver Policies
Wolt is set to implement a significant change in August, prohibiting the sharing of driver accounts in Finland. The move is part of preparations for a legal update that will allow alcohol home deliveries.
Under the new rules, drivers may need an alcohol delivery permit, and Wolt aims to ensure compliance by preventing account sharing (Ilta-Sanomat).
