SDP Leads Polls as Left Alliance Hits Near 30-Year High in Support

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) remains Finland’s most popular political party, though its support has slightly declined, according to the latest Helsingin Sanomat opinion poll. The survey, conducted by research company Verian, shows the SDP with 24.1 percent support, a decrease of 0.2 percentage points since May and down from 25.3 percent in December (Ilta-Sanomat).

The National Coalition Party (Kokoomus) holds second place with 17.4 percent, a marginal increase of 0.1 percentage points from the previous poll (Ilta-Sanomat). The Centre Party and the Finns Party are tied for third, each with 13.6 percent support. The Finns Party’s backing rose by 0.2 percentage points, continuing a trend of gradual growth (Yle).

Left Alliance Reaches Highest Support Since Mid-1990s

The Left Alliance has achieved its strongest polling result in nearly 30 years, with 11.2 percent support—an increase of 0.2 percentage points from the previous month (Yle, MTV Uutiset). This marks the party’s fifth consecutive rise in the polls, positioning it as Finland’s fifth most popular party (Ilta-Sanomat).

Other parties in the poll include the Green League at 9 percent, the Swedish People’s Party of Finland (RKP) at 3.9 percent, the Christian Democrats at 3.1 percent, and Movement Now at 2.1 percent (Ilta-Sanomat).

The survey, based on responses from 4,000 people in an online panel, has a margin of error of approximately 1.5 percentage points for the largest parties (MTV Uutiset). The next parliamentary elections are scheduled for April 2027.
