Police Respond to Two Separate Reports of Armed Individuals in Helsinki
On Wednesday evening, Helsinki police handled two separate incidents involving reports of potentially armed individuals, both of which resulted in criminal investigations.
Incident in Laajasalo
At approximately 5:00 PM, emergency services received a report of an armed individual in a stairwell on Otonkuja in the Laajasalo district. Multiple police patrols were dispatched to the scene, but no suspect matching the description was found. According to police, the situation at the location remained calm, and the operation was concluded within an hour. Incident in Itäkeskus
Around 5:30 PM, police were called to a restaurant on Visbynkuja in Itäkeskus following reports of a fight. One person at the scene was suspected of having been assaulted, with injuries believed to have been caused by fists. The suspect, who was reportedly armed, had already left the premises before authorities arrived. The incident is being preliminarily investigated as assault, aggravated firearms offense, and illegal threat (Yle). Ilta-Sanomat reports that charges may be adjusted as the investigation progresses.
